election 2016: stevo's ballot ...

“Why not think about times to come,
And not about the things that you’ve done?
And if your life’s been bad to you?
Just think what tomorrow could do!

Don’t!  Stop!
Thinking about tomorrow!
Don’t!  Stop!
It’ll soon be here!

It’ll be here –
Better than before!
‘Cause yesterday’s gone!
Yesterday’s gone! …”

--------------------

As best I can tell, this is what the ballot I cast tomorrow will look like, when I head to the Disabled American Veterans place, next to the abandoned bowling alley off of 87th and Blue Ridge Boulevard tomorrow, to cast my ballot for #Election2016.

If how I vote guides your decision, wonderful.  If it doesn’t, fantastic.  Just please, get out and vote.  If even I can manage to make a polling place by 7pm CT (and I plan to be there when my polling station opens at 6am – I mean hell, if I can’t walk the equivalent of two blocks to exercise the greatest freedom that we have, then why do I have this freedom, to determine my country’s future), then what is your excuse?

As you will notice from my ballot, I do not vote party line.  Hell, if you know me, you know that’s the truth – I am a registered Democrat who hasn’t voted to put a donkey in the White House since 2000.  (And hasn’t voted for a Republican to represent me in the Senate since … uuh … I forget.  I’m honestly not sure that has ever happened, unless Bob Dole was running on the ballot both for the Presidency and the Senate in 1996.  Although in my defense, look at the “options” I faced the last twenty years – Pat Roberts (ugh) or Sam Brownback (never) when I lived in Kansas; Roy Blunt or Todd Akin in Missouri (not a chance in hell).

And if the theme to this post doesn’t give away who I’m voting for at the top of the ballot?

Then you didn’t pay even the slightest bit of attention to politics, in 1992.

--------------------

* President (and Vice President): Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine (D).  All I need to justify this vote, to be brutally honest, is to (a) look at my friends who backed Bernie Sanders, and (b) look at my friends who back Donald Trump.

Not because I think they’re wrong to support either candidate; it’s your vote – all I ask is that you use it however your conscience sees fit to, uuh, use it.  But because my friends backing Mr. Sanders argued Mrs. Clinton isn’t “liberal enough”, and my friends backing Mr. Trump  believe Mrs. Clinton is “worse than Obama”.

Which means she’s exactly what I’ve always felt she was: a true moderate, willing to work with either party for the best solution to our nation’s problems.  And thanks to the ineptitude both sides have sent to the White House in the last sixteen years, is exactly what this country needs.

There are things about Secretary Clinton I don’t like, not the least of which is her strident pro-choice stand, not the most of which is her indefensible continual lying about the “email scandal”.  It’s my biggest complaint about Hillary, actually – she automatically assumes all criticism of her is based on hatred or bias or something other than reality.  Madam Secretary?  Take a bit of advice from someone who’s had to do this a lot in his life:

When you f*ck up?  Own it, admit it, apologize for said f*ck up, then go about repairing the damage your mistakes made.  Be humble, be contrite, be genuinely sorry, and learn from it.  It’s called a “life lesson” for a reason.  People will always forgive the sinner.  If not the sin.  But not if you don’t admit you’re wrong to begin with.

In the interest of honesty, if the Republican ticket was flipped, I could have been talked into it.  Reluctantly, but it could have happened.  But I cannot in good faith say that I can stand before the face of God someday, and confirm I sold out my values and beliefs, to vote for the most evil man to ever be this close to the Presidency, because he might appoint a Supreme Court nominee that keeps the court centralized, versus pulled far left.  I cannot in good faith say that I can stand before the fact of God someday, and confirm I sold out my values and beliefs, for a man who thinks grabbing women by their privatest of parts is acceptable, who brags, boasts, and beams with pride over his constant degrade and disrespect for his wife, and who claims he owes no confession or absolution for his sins because he has nothing to confess.

This man is just … I’ll stop there.  Vote your conscience.  I have too strong of one – I was raised too appropriately – to cast my vote for this vile of a human being.

Having said that, this is my final projected Electoral College map ... and yes, it really is about one state: New Hampshire.  New Hampshire.  New Hampshire.

New Bleeping Hampshire.

Just like it was sixteen years ago, if we're being honest:

* United States Senate: Jason Kander (D).  Of every endorsement I’ll read this election cycle, the Kansas City Star signing off on another six years of Roy Blunt disgusts me the most.  Roy Blunt is Washington at its worst – his family gravy trains as lobbyists, he never fails to shove a pork-ladened amendment into an otherwise quality piece of legislation, and he’s so bought and paid for by the tobacco lobby that I’m shocked Joe Camel didn’t appear at a Roy Blunt campaign rally.

Kander’s done a decent job as Secretary of State.  God knows he had some issues on his watch that would try the patience of Job – Ferguson, that journalism professor “asking for muscle” during the racial protests at Mizzou – and he’s handled those things as reasonably well as can be hoped for.  (If you doubt me, look at Baltimore’s reaction to the racial tensions that erupted this year.)

With God’s good grace and a bit of luck, Mr. Kander might become as powerful a force for Missouri as Senator McCaskill is.  Even if he’s worse than imaginable?  He’s still better than Roy Blunt.

* United States House of Representatives: Jacob Turk (R).  I wouldn’t vote for “Car Wash” Cleaver if you put a gun to my head and pulled the trigger.  “Sleazy” Manny Cleaver is a disgrace.  Sadly, there is no chance in hell Mr. Cleaver is not going to win; the 5th Congressional District in Missouri wouldn’t elect a Republican if God Himself demanded it be done.  But a kid can dream.  And the dream of “Sleazy” Manny Cleaver retired to the pulpit (yup, he’s a Reverend … and to think people actually ask why I refuse to step foot in a place of worship to, uuh, worship), is a dream I proudly cling to.

* Governor of Missouri: Eric Greitens (R).  This is the one that I spent the most time agonizing over.  I think Eric Greitens’ ads against Chris Koster are disgraceful, disgusting, and outrageously false.  But at the end of the day, Chris Koster isn’t someone I want representing Missouri to the world.  He’s just not a good dude from afar.  I’d call him a sleazy opportunist who switched parties to get elected but … oh wait, he is a sleazy opportunist who switched parties to get elected.  My bad.  (And funny how all you Trumpsters reading this, probably found that last comment funny.  #irony)

Either person would do a decent job running the state; Jay Nixon has been a tremendous governor the last eight years, and will leave the state in the best shape it’s been in, in decades.  I just think Mr. Greitens is the better option.  Hence my vote.

* Lieutenant Governor of Missouri: Russ Carnahan (D).  Jesus God above, I’m voting for a Carnahan.  I’m not sure there’s enough whiskey in Jackson County to absolve me of that fact.  Let’s just move on; there’s really no good options here, only awful ones.

* Secretary of State of Missouri: Jay Ashcroft (R).  I’ve rarely if ever felt more disgusted with a decision I’ve made, and I’m fully aware there’s that night involving a stripper, a cripple, and a chick with a mustache.  I’m voting for an Ashcroft.  That might be worse than voting for a Carnahan.  They’re both awful, awful political families that have done significant damage to Missouri and the nation over the last four decades.

* Attorney General of Missouri: Teresa Hensley (D).  A few people I’ve talked to think she’s the real deal, from her time in Cass County.  Good enough for me.  All the AG has to do is throw a competent presser a couple times a year when some heinous crime occurs in the state.  She seems like she can pull that off at least as competently as Mr. Koster has these last four years.

* Treasurer of Missouri: Eric Schmidt (R).  You have to be a brain dead idiot to put a Democrat in charge of the Treasury.  And I say this as a registered Democrat.

* Missouri Senate, District 9: “Kiki” Curls (D).  Running unopposed.  Also, you have to love a candidate who goes by “Kiki”.  (Note: if I write in a friend on the ballot, as Mr. Reason always does on his in unopposed races, this is the one that gets a write-in.)

* Missouri House of Representatives, District 27: Richard Brown (D).  Running unopposed.  Could be another “shout out to a friend” write-in vote.

* Missouri Supreme Court: Richard Teitelman – vote Retain.  Unless a judge has unfairly incarcerated me for a night or three, I’ll always vote to retain.

* Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern Appellate District: James Dowd, Philip Hess – vote Retain.  I can’t recall any offensive appeal to rail against.  Retain competence.

* Missouri 16th Judicial Circuit Court: (hang on folks, there’s a list of these people coming) Jalilah Otto, Sandra Midkiff, David Byrn, J. Dale Youngs, S. Margene Burnett, Bryan Round, Joel Fahnestock, Wesley Brent Powell, Jennifer Phillips, Jeffrey Neal, Janette Rodecap, Robert Trout – vote Retain on all.  (Pause).  You know what?  I just realized something.  I haven’t appeared in a court room as a defendant, for any reason, in at least four years!  I haven’t spent an unfortunate night in incarceration, in any jurisdiction, in well over four years!  #progress!

* Ballot Initiatives:

Proposition A, Missouri $0.23 Cigarette Sales Tax: Yes.  I have to be consistent.  If I support legalizing marijuana for more than the obvious … then I have to support raising taxes on every other legal (or hopefully, soon to be) tobacco-type product, for the public’s best interest.  Also, Missouri cigarette taxes are ridiculously low, and if this doesn’t pass, then you know they’re coming after alcohol next to fund whatever idiocy this promises to fund.  And I’m getting sick and tired of paying nearly $40 / handle for Weller, that was $29 / handle four years ago.

Having said that, you’re going to call me a complete bleeping hypocrite in five … four … three …

Constitutional Amendment 3, Missouri $0.60 Cigarette Sales Tax: No.  No just no, but hell no.

For starters, what the hell does a cigarette tax have to do with the damned state’s constitution?  I swear, this state is becoming as ridiculous as California with their amendment ballot initiatives.  Secondly, doesn’t federal funding already fund Head Start and early childhood development programs?  Thirdly, I’m getting damned sick and tired of this “the language of the provision ensures politicians can only use the money for” promises.  That’s what we were told twenty years ago when we legalized casinos!  How many more f*cking taxes and promises do you have to reneg on, before you finally properly fund our school systems, Jefferson City?

Here’s a thought: grow a pair, and use it to properly fund our schools, by making choices WE elect you to do, and craft a budget that does it, taxes be damned!  Who in their right mind would vote against properly funding a public education system?  Who in their right mind would boot someone out of power for raising taxes 1/8th of 1% to balance the damned budget?

This is the single worst thing right-wing talk radio has unleashed upon the nation, is this ridiculous “all taxes are evil” bullsh*t.  No, they aren’t.  Taxes serve a useful purpose – they pay for the public services we all use and (at least somewhat) enjoy!

There’s a reason why propositions and amendments like this keep failing in Missouri: because we’re too stupid to fall for them.  I’ll choke down Proposition A, because it’s reasonable.  There’s no way I’ll vote to amend the constitution – the governing document of the freaking state – to mandate a tax on cigarettes.  There’s a place for something like that.  It’s called a “piece of legislation passed by the state Congress”, not the bleeping constitution.

Constitutional Amendment 4, Prohibition on Extending Sales Tax to Previously Untaxed Services: No.  The second toughest decision on the ballot for me, because I’m currently neck-deep in a committee project at work to deal with all the states putting this on the ballot come Tuesday.  (And trust me, if these things pass, it will be a nightmare to deal with, both accounting and tax-reporting wise.)

Having said that …

I can go along with this, because the playing field isn’t level across state lines.  (Deal with processing -- or creating -- an invoice for even ten minutes, and you’ll get it.)  Some states charge tax on internet sales; some don’t.  Some charge tax on services and fees; some don’t.  You’ll drive yourself bat sh*t crazy trying to not only figure out if, when billing a client, taxes apply … you’ll really drive yourself Trump sh*t crazy trying to figure out if reciprocal taxes apply, based on what the invoice is for, from whatever state the vendor is based in.  It’s insane.

Again – not all taxes are evil, and not all taxes are equal.  Charging a fair rate like other progressive states do seems the reasonable and right thing to do.  So I’m voting no, on this amendment.

Amendment 1, Missouri Sales Tax for Parks and Conservation: Yes.  It’s to renew the state parks tax.  It’s a 1/10th of 1% surcharge.  If you enjoy floating the Elk or Niangra at least one weekend every summer?  You’d damned well better vote yes.

Constitutional Amendment 2, Missouri State and Judicial Campaign Contribution Limits: No.  If ridiculously right and left wing idealalogues are going to attack judges for interpreting the law?  Then give judges the right to defend their decisions and rulings to the people through advertising.  Free speech.  Let it breathe.

Constitutional Amendment 6, Missouri Voter ID Requirement: Yes.  Good God, who DOESN’T have a valid state-issued ID?  You can’t cash a check without one, which pretty much destroys every argument against this proposal.  If the poorest of the poor can’t cash their benefit and/or assistance check from the government without an ID, then who the hell DOESN’T have an ID?

That appears to be it, for what will appear on my ballot come (hopefully) 6:05ish tomorrow morning.

Whatever appears on yours?  Vote your conscience.  I suppose that is why this is my favorite political ad of the year, and for once, it's not an outrageous lie.  True character is said to be revealed in how you treat others, when you think nobody is paying attention.  And I agree with that statement.

What does it speak for who you are, when you act like the candidates, with the cameras on you?

(racist nation anthem voice) fake away! fake away! fake away! stevoland! ...

“The last time we talked?
The night that I walked?
Burns like an iron,
In the back of my mind!

I must have been high,
To say you and I?
Weren’t meant to be –
You’re just wasting my time.

Oh!
Why did I ever doubt you?
You know I would die here?
Without you!

All that I’m after?
Is a life full of laughter!
Without you?
God knows what I’d do!

All that I’m after?
Is a life full of laughter!
As long as I’m laughing?
With you!

(And I know)
All that still matters?
Is love ever after!

And after the life
We’ve been through?
I know there’s no life?
After you! …”

My apologies for a month without posting.

Let’s just get at it, shall we?

Peoples and peepettes?

Your second fake mailbag, of the year.

* “So no recap of “House of Wings” or Secretary Clinton’s speeches?  Good God dude, you weren’t this lazy four years ago!  Thoughts?” – Brooke B, Milwaukee.

Well here’s the thing – I don’t know what to think.

For the record, I liked Mr. Trump’s speech, and I hated Mrs. Clinton’s.

Two of the three most conservative people I know?  Felt a complete 180 degree opposite.  My mom liked Mrs. Clinton’s speech enough – and more specifically, hated “House of Wings”’s speech – that voting for her is in play.  (As of today, she’s all aboard the Gary Johnson train.)  And my adopted mom – who wouldn’t vote for Hillary if you put a gun to her head and pulled the trigger – thought HRC’s speech was the best speech out of the two conventions.

(The third conservative brain I pick at, “The Voice of Reason”, I refused to ask to comment on Hillary’s speech.  But I can confirm I liked “House of Wings”’s effort more than he did.)

I guess this is why 2016 is destined to be the Brian Griffin Memorial “What the Hell?!?!?!” Election of our lifetimes – our next President is guaranteed to be a pathological liar.  Man, does that fact make you long for the glory days of “Corzine Cronies” and “Left.  Liberal.  Granholm!”

* “How many more scandals is it going to take until you decide not to elect Crooked Hillary to the Presidency?  Just pick a number – you know she’s going to hit it!” – Will D, South KC.

There’s no number to name – my vote ain’t changing.  Criminal always – always! – trumps crazy.  At least in the Casa de Stevo.

* “So who is going to win?” – Clancy J, Waldo.

“House of Wings”.  It’s a gut feeling based mainly on the fact that in the last four elections, I’ve only voted for the winner once, and I wasn’t exactly proud of that vote to begin with (2004, I voted Bush over Kerry.  It’s one of the few votes I’ve ever cast in my life, I wish to God I could undo.  But then again, I lived in Kansas, and it’s not like my vote mattered, so what the hell.)

If you remember 2000, the late, great Tim Russert holding up the white board with three words on it: Florida, Florida, Florida?  Come November 8, his son Luke can hold up the white board with three words on it: Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania.

But I also think “House of Wings” is going to win because of four reasons:

2. Only God knows what’s coming in the next promised Wikileaks data dump.  And I guarantee you, every damned last one of us Clintonistas is terrified, of what’s coming.
3. “House of Wings” is going to clobber her in the debates.  And note to angry Trumpsters – it doesn’t matter that two debates are up again prime time NFL contests, and the third is up against the World Series.  ALL of America is going to watch.  This is the greatest reality show in history, period.  But mostly …
4. The African American vote.  Simply put folks, Mrs. Clinton needs Obama-level turnout from the African American community.  Between Mr. Trump’s dead-on accurate call to black Americans to open their eyes and see what fifty years of unchecked liberal rule has done to them, and the fact that Mrs. Clinton is pushing 70 and white and a woman, do you really think 92% of the African American voting base is turning out, like they averaged in the last two elections?  Or do you think it’s going to plummet to a more normal 80%?

(It’s gonna plummet.  Which is gonna throw Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina to “House of Wings”.)

I think Pennsylvania decides this bad boy.  And I don’t think it will be decided before we got to bed on November 8 … and maybe the 9th, as well.

Oh, and to answer the obvious – yes, Clancy J is a real person.  He’s a regular at my home away from home (aka “Quinton’s in Waldo”), and a very interesting person to talk to.

* “Seriously, can we do something about Hud?  If I have to hear one more stinky cheese comment, I might throw something at my television!” – Reggie K, Oak Grove.

Which begs the obvious question: you need another dumb f*ck comment to start hurling things at the Royals broadcast on your screen?  I’ve been doing that for at least two years, girl.  Catch up with the times!

Although how great was it yesterday, that even Don Mattingly was questioning the “big red head”’s sanity?

* “Can they do this?  Can the Royals really pull this off?” – Ryan M, Springfield.

As my buddy Pickell would say: “put it this way”.  Put it this way – walking out of whatever the hell the Golden Gophers stadium is called on October 18th, I had no thoughts whatsoever about the Chiefs making the playoffs.  It would be literally three months until the next Chiefs defeat.  They went from 1-5, with no Jamaal Charles, no second option at receiver, a putrid offensive line, and the loss of their biggest defensive playmaker … to making this guy cry uncontrollably at 6:36pm CT thirteen weeks later.

So can they do this?  Hell yes they can!

* “Of course they will!  C’mon Stevo!  They’re gonna do this!” – Tyler C, Brookside.

I like your optimism.  Also, get well soon dude.  I miss my bean bag teammate.  Especially because my teammate at the preseason opener was worse than god awful.

* “How many wins is it going to take?” – Eric R, Blue Springs.

However many it takes to get one game clear of all but one second place finisher.  Duh!

I honestly think 86 gets them in.  That means a 20-15 close.  And hey – if you don’t think the two time defending American League Champions can’t play barely over .500 baseball over these last six weeks?  With 18 of those 35 against the horrific White Sox, atrocious A's, and sh*ttacular Twins?  If you think our Boyz N Blue can’t do that?  Then to quote the greatness that is George Strait:

Speaking of musical legends we'll never see on stage again …

* “Merle.  God damn it.” – Blake P, KCK.

Pretty much my reaction, save for the lack of the adjective form of the greatest word in the English language, between “damn” and “it”.  Oh, yeah, and taking his unquestionably wise suggestion to heart:

* “When do we get your NFL predictions?  Think of your readers dude!  I have three mouths to feed now!  Babies need diapers!” – Anthony V, Overland Park.

Your season and week one predictions will be up no later than kickoff on Thursday, September 8th.  I have created the schedule spreadsheet, but I haven’t run the schedules yet.  But those schedules did reveal some interesting stuff.

For example, do you realize that there are two teams that don’t play a divisional game before the baseball postseason gets underway?  (The Eagles and satan’s squad.)  And there actually is a team this year that plays not one, not two, not three, oh no!  There is a squad that plays (mike gundy voice) four! home games in a row!  (The Packers).  To quote the decrepit Fran Tarkenton: “that’s incredible!”

Now that’s NFL schedule knowledge you just ain’t gonna find, anywhere else.

* “Can you give us a sneak peak at your Week One leans?  (Pause).  Not for me, but for a friend.” – Gregg G, Bonner Springs.

(Note: I often joke that the Fidelity "Why Not" ad from the early 2000s is the single most indefensible racist ad of all time.  These Calvin ads from the early 1990s are pretty godd*mned close to that level of racism.  Even the Klan is blushing at how racist this sh*t is.  And seriously -- what in the bluest of blue hells is Rose from "Lost" doing starring in (the first linked Calvin ad) as Calvin's mama?  My God girl, have some respect!)

* And yet, you worked at McDonalds in that era!" -- Justin B, Olathe.

And like Calvin?  I was management to boot.  (Pause).  What?  (Pause).  You're damned right I still have that McDonalds tie somewhere in my closet at my folks house.

* “If – because let’s face it, you honor a promise made on this site about as often as you get laid – if you make your weekly picks, can you add a confidence meter to them?  Something that lets us know which game line you feel the best about?  It will greatly pad my bank account, betting against your best bets on the board.” – Brent S, Incorporated Johnson County.

OK, first of all … (stevo sighing in disgust) … I might actually honor a promise on this site, more often than I enjoy a night of frisky fun.  I mean, if I honor one, then that means I keep my words more than … (stevo sobbing) ... god fuc …

Hang on.  I’m saving the ultimate indefensible swear phrase, for when it truly counts, at the end of this post.

And I’m not editing it even with an asterick.

(It’ll make sense once you get … (samuel l jackson in “die hard with a vengeance” voice) Hey Zeus!, eight pages in Word, from now.)

But I gotta admit – this is not a bad idea.  And reminds me of the good old days, the high point of our gambling careers.  Just remembering 2003, 2004 makes me a lil’ verklempt.  (linda richman voice) Talk amongst yourselves.  I’ll give you a topic.  GLoW used to refer to something other than the sun or ladies wrestling.  Discuss.

That’s really not a bad idea.  Now I just need a name for it – since the greatness formerly known as The KKK has been taken by the Klassy One now.

Speaking of our good friend … let’s bring back my favorite part of the picks post – two weeks early!

Yup, it’s time for the “Klassy” Kevin Keitzman Tweet O’ The Week!!!!

Oh boy.  Let’s check the boxes this string of intelligence from Ol’ Klassy, uuh, checks.

Racist?  Yup – insinuating black people have to rely on the government for everything.
Insensitive?  Yup – mocking people dealing with horrific tragedy.
Insulting of Everyone’s Intelligence?  Yup – has he never watched ESPN before?  They routinely do news!  Sh*t, Klassy K, they even have an entire network devoted to news – and it’s called ESPN News to boot!

I’m telling you, Klassy K is the gift that keeps on giving.

* “Klassy K!  I like it!  He should become a rapper!  Klassy K just rolls off the tongue, like Wiz Khalifa, or Master P, or Fiddy Cent!” – Jasson W, Prairie Village.

And not only that, he’d more than fit in with the hip hop culture that rap fuels, given his (alleged) love of wearing his pants down around his ankles.

* “What’s your favorite song of the summer?” – Jacob J, Olathe.

I know what I’m supposed to say – “The Weekend” by Brantley Gilbert.  But I can’t.  It’s absolutely horrible.  It’s the worst song he’s ever done, bar none.  And I should know – I ranked them all (save for the newbies on the platinum edition of “Just As I Am” … only one of which is even worth listening to, let alone ranking).

Plus, if I’ve already had to explain to uninformed tailgaters what a dugout is (and I have), I really don’t want to have to explain what “wake and bake” means.  #diggingmyowngrave

The correct answer is – and I cannot believe I am typing this – “Love Me” by The 1975.  It is the only song by these dudes I like – the rest of the cd is horsesh*t.  But this song rocks.  It is so David Bowie forty years ago.  Absolute brilliance.  (Pause).  What?  (Pause).  You’re damned right it’s going on Mixology in two weeks!

I love this tune.  And not just because the lead singer is obviously lit like a Christmas tree, while chugging straight out of multiple bottles, in said video.

Speaking of getting in the tailgating mood …

* “So what exciting new additions can we expect on The Bus this fall?” – Gus B, Raytown.

A whole new listening experience.  The Bus is going wireless!  At least with the speakers.

There are two wireless speakers that will be in use, starting on September 11.  The primary one is going to hang on the sideview mirror (or just above where we always planted the old, gigantic speakers).  I got that one for my ten year gift from “company I work for”.  I checked a couple sites; the average price for this sucker was $265.  It also had a 4.5 star rating, and I didn’t see a single negative comment on either Best Buy or Amazon’s websites, so that’s saying something.  What, I may not know … but it says something.

And there’s this – when it arrived, I could not believe how small it was.  Initially I was thinking of creating a removable mount; instead it’ll be clamped onto that mirror while it’s in use.  (And there’s still PLENTY of room for noosed donkey!  Yay!  (kazoo voice) !!!!!!!!!!!!!)

We tested out the sound a couple weeks ago.  I could clearly hear from almost 100 feet away, and with a competing radio to boot.  I’m very confident this little bundle of joy will easily amplify to the 50 some odd square feet between the buses.

The second one is much smaller, and it has to be plugged into my iPhone to work (it’s not necessarily wireless).  But this second one also is a cell phone charger, so the single biggest problem with the old setup – namely, any tailgate for an 3:25 or prime time start drained my cell phone by halftime down to zero – will never be a problem again.  (homer simpson voice) It’s win-win!

(And we have three of those eight dates this year.  Three times we’re staring a six plus hour tailgate in the face … and I couldn’t be happier!  (Pause).  Although I guarantee you, if I’m right about my thoughts regarding the season about to unfold, at least ESPN is going to be furious, they don’t get the first game at Arrowhead in … I’ll save that, for the predictions post.)

The second speaker comes courtesy of our good friends at Coors Light.  Yes kids, I drank so much Coors Light this summer, that I not only got a free travel bag and speaker set … I still have a $50 credit at StubHub to spend on the roadie to Indy!  (Or Houston, but I think Ryan and Tyler’s crew is handling our seats for that trip.)

Between the two speaker sets, we’ll actually have something approaching surround sound!  And even better?  For the Jets game (3:25pm kickoff), we can plug the second speaker into my laptop if need be, and have the early games via the Sunday Ticket, like we did for the oakland finale earlier this year!  (gary busey voice) God bless America!

The other major change I know of … is the utter lack or need for a generator.  The primary use of the generator was to generate enough power for the stereo.  Now that everything music wise is running off my phone and the Wi-Fi, we don’t have to lug that bulky, costly bastard out there every week!  The only weeks we’ll need it are for the cold games, for additional power for all the crock pots.  That will be wonderful.

Other than that, I’m clueless.  I’ve done my part.  I cleared the aisles of anything that my ass could painfully land on.  Now everyone else gets to chip in on clean-up Sunday … which is Sunday.

* “Holy crap Batman!  Football’s almost here!” – Matt P, Blue Springs.

Damn straight, dude.

* “And so is bowling league!” – Penny O, Blue Springs.

Damn straight, dudette.

Also, I have a “Forward, Together” button for you, on Opening Night.  A kid never forgets the important stuff.

(That, and that is one of THE coolest buttons, I've ever seen.  This Rob Duncan dude is a f*cking creative genius!)

I just hope we don’t kill each other, before this indefensible “major” election, reaches its climax.  We get criminal or we get crazy.  (Pause).  God spare this great Republic.

* “So seriously, not even a little hint, a little preview, of your thoughts on the season to come?” – Chris N, Quality Hill.

Under the caveat of “nothing is official until I run the schedules and post the predictions” … I am willing to wager five predictions involving the Red and Gold.

1. The Chiefs will stage a “Perfect Stevo Game” in their opener.
2. The “Stevo Drinking Game” Over/Under for the Jets game is 9.5.
3. The only loss at home will occur on a rainy, miserable day in the month we celebrate Thanksgiving ... and a loss the following week on the road, will inspire near panic amongst Arrowhead Nation.
4. The eventual AFC West Champions?  Will be decided via a prime time game at Arrowhead in December.
5. The Chiefs will win at least two of three, against the Super Bowl teams from last year.

At least two of those predictions, will come true.  You all can figure out which one other than Numero Dos, is guaranteed to happen.

* “What the hell is the “Stevo Drinking Game””? – Miranda P, Independence.

It is a wager against a pre-set over/under number, on the number of alcoholic beverages I will have already consumed when “The Voice of Reason” shows up.

For the purposes of this fun exercise, an “alcoholic beverage” is defined as either a beer (at least 12 oz), a mixed drink (at least coffee cup size), a credible sized Jello shot (note: if I make them?  They’re credible sized), or a solid straight chug out of a bottle, shot glass, or army-issued tin cup.

Also, it is drinks consumed anywhere prior to Mr. Reason’s arrival, not just drinks consumed once the tailgate begins.  So yes, that Irish Coffee on the ride in counts.

The jury is still out on a beer used in beer pong – I say yes, count it; most people have said no, it’s not full enough.  For now, it does not count.

You get absolutely no prize for guessing correctly, other than the hilarity of watching what alcohol does to me.  And sadly, it doesn’t really do anything; I drink too much to get sufficiently blitzed anymore.

I look forward to your participation in this fun filled exercise this fall.

Also – practice up.  If Tyler can’t make it as my cornhole partner?  Then you have to.  Because that preseason opener was unacceptable.  Unacceptable!

It’s you and me … or me and someone else.  Because if you can’t get even one hole shot, we’re done as cornhole partners.  I hate losing at one of the only two tailgate games I should excel in.

(The other being beer pong … and I own that bastardo.)

And with that, it’s time to start dragging this kicking and screaming to the finish line … let’s see who is left in the inbox queue …

* "No, the real question for tailgating / Chiefs season is, how many times is "she" going to be there?" -- every person reading this, every place you reside.

However many she wants to.  Save for denver.  I don't feel like we're at a point, that exposing her to me at a donkeys game, is good for any parties involved.

* “Son?  If you f*ck this up?  I will disown you!” – Mona H, Raytown.

Actually, I cheated.  That wasn’t a “fake email”; that was said to my face, last Sunday.

* “(Mona’s) always right!” – Russ H, Raytown.

Another cheat.  Also said to my face, last Sunday.

* “If you land her, you’re kicking 80 yard punt-esque out kicking your coverage.” – Gregg G, Bonner Springs.

(Pause).

(stevo at a chiefs game voice) Cheater!  That was an actual text message, sent from “The Voice of Reason” to me, when I asked his thoughts and/or opinions, of the girl I am totally, totally crushing … who is amongst those lucky enough in this life, to have met her.

And speaking of her …

* “You are the sweetest person I have ever met.  I wish I’d known (how I feel about her) sooner!  I amaze you?  You amaze me!  Nobody has ever said (what I sent) to me!  (My daughter) absolutely loves you.  And so does her mom!” – (Pause).  Yeah, it's time.  (Pause).  "The Chica", North KC.

(Pause).

Yeah, it's time.

(Pause).

Thank God above, those two words finally are applied, after being bastardized and beyond inappropriately applied, on the “Hillary Clinton of Kansas City” for far too damned long, to someone actually worthy, of having them?

Applied to her.

God bless, I at least really, really like, The True Chica?

Irrationally.

In the words of Ted Nugent:

Also – yup, these are my peop … (Pause).  What?  (Pause).  Are you sh*tting me?  Seriously?  Non-credible emails from barely recognizable readers are showing up in an inbox that doesn't exist, and some editor dudette that is a figment of my (brett voice) "vivid imagination", is demanding I publish them?

(Pause).

Fine, let it through.

* “Seriously?  Daughtry?  Seriously man, “American Idol” died eight years ago.  Pick someone else for the theme!  I didn’t bake it up with you for two years, to have Daughtry be my reason why!” – Chris R, occupancy unknown.

Well, I happen to like Daughtry.  He’s my second fav … (Pause).  What?  (Pause).  Really?  I mean, you have to be – what are the odds?  What are the f*cking odds?!?!?!

(Pause).

Fine, send it through – this ought to be intriguing.

* “Seriously?  Daughtry?  For f*ck’s sake tito, you are a disgrace to 30 year old you!  I should know – I am 30 year old you!  Daughtry couldn’t sh*t in a stall next to Blake f*cking Lewis, he'd be so scared to drop a deuce -- and you f*cking know it!” – 30 Year Old Stevo, South KC.

Wow, I so channel 30 year old me perfectly, from the Spring of 2007, that I frighten 39 year old me to my core.  You gotta love 30 year old me perfectly re-enacted, right down to dropping a f bomb gratuitously in every inappropriate moment, while getting baked off my ass on the single and second greatest decks any person will ever call home, on a regular basis.

(You doubt me?  The lower part?  Hot tub with built in fireplace AND decent sized television.  The upper part?  Recliner, couch, hammock, coffee table, and television with cable feed.  Both parts were screened in and roofed.  No, not roofied – roofed.  The only drawback?  I’m struggling to find one.  Dammit, I miss that deck … “mrs. voice of reason” voice: me too dude!  Me too!)

(To say nothing of how great the third greatest deck ever was, at “stubbs”, for the last half of Blaker’s run.)

(Wait, where was I?  Who am I?  Why am I here?!?!?!?!)

(Pause).

Oh, yeah.  The "Fake" Mailbag.

There’s only one way to close this down.

Mr. Seacrest?  For one final time, please dim the lights, please silence the audience, please cue Rickey Minor and the band … and please, cue the Nick Bakay Voice.

It’s time for … The Tale O’ The Tape!!!!  Today’s (coach don fambrough voice) showdown / throwdown / hoedown / chuck whiskey bottles at mizzou fan’s heads contest … is who is actually my favorite “American Idol” ever.

In one corner, we have the Season Five Fourth Place Finisher, a man from North Carolina who has enjoyed incredible success in his post-Idol journey, please, ladies and gentlemen, welcome the greatness that is Chris Daughtry!!!!!

And in this corner, we have the Season Six Runner Up, a man from Bothell, Washington, a man who thirty year old me proudly supported as a “Blaker Boy”, a man who my irrational support for led one former roommate to note “why’d we let him move in?”, and led a second former roommate to note “because he can keep the lights on!” as the justification for that move to “stubbs”, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the very questioned genius that is Blake Lewis!!!!!!!

As always, The Tale O’ The Tape consists of Seven Questions of Great Significance.  Three contestants, guaranteed to be tied at two after six of them, with only one winner.

* Question Uno: The Top Female Finisher From Their Season’s Career Arc.

Daughtry: Katherine McPhee went on to star on the short-lived (and missed) “Smash”, and currently stars as a co-lead on a second show of hers I somehow like, “Scorpion”.

Lewis: Jordin Sparks has gone on to record multiple chart-ranking hits, including “Battlefield” (Jesus, this song is amazing), “Tattoo” (with Mr. Lewis starring in the video), and “Playing With Fire”, with Stevo’s Site Numero Dos’ Favorite Artist of 2016, Thomas Rhett.

(Plus, I had to include this -- I thought her cover of Barbra Streisand's "Woman In Love" on Top Four "Bee Gees" Night was awesome.  And if that ain't yo' cup o' tea?  "Broken Wing".  Jesus.  Unbelievable.  She covers Streisand and Martina perfectly ... when she was sixteen.  Sixteen!  Are you f*cking kidding me?!?!?!  She covered that, at sixteen!  Christ, I could barely put a shirt on, at sixteen!  I can barely do that now, pushing forty, for God's sake!)

Winner: Push.  Amazingly – and these are five words thirty year old me would have NEVER said – amazingly?  We are ALL winners here!

* Question Dos: Has recorded a decent version of the theme from “Growing Pains” with Dane Cook.

Daughtry: yes.

Lewis: no.

Winner: Daughtry.  Sorry – Dane Cook may be the biggest deuche this side of Ryan Lochte … but it’s “Growing Pains”, arguably a top five greatest theme song ever participant.

* Question Tres: Was Stevo’s favorite contestant on the season he appeared on “Idol” for ... at the time.

Daughtry: no.

Lewis: yes.

Winner: Lewis.  For the record, my puppy / pony / rooster / rubber chicken in Season Five was Elliott Yamin.  #yaminian4eva #ihatehashtags #not

* Question Cuatro: Was voted out to far inferior competition.

Daughtry: yes.

Lewis: no.

Winner: Lewis.  Sorry, but Taylor Hicks is either the worst winner of “Idol” ever … or you think Lee DeWyze is.  (For the record, I vote DeWyze.  No finalist ever got screwed more than my favorite female ever on this show, Crystal Bowersox.)  He also finished behind #mcpheever and #yaminiannation.  Blake lost to Jordin effing Sparks, and nobody else.  This question isn’t even a competition.

* Question Cinco: Which final female contestant from their season inspired me to not only throw things at the television, but I once swore I’d never even type her name, I hated her so much?

Daughtry: Katherine McPhee.

Lewis: nobody.

Winner: Daughtry.  Christ, I hated Katherine McPhee.  Then came this … and the tide turned.

* Question Sies: I have paid my (barely) hard earned money, to see them perform live.

Daughtry: yes.

Lewis: yes.

Winner: push.  I am the winner here.  As is anyone who has ever seen either artist perform in person – they’re both amazing.

And so, with Daughtry 2, Lewis 2, Push 2 … the …

* Question of Greatest Signifcance: delivered my favorite “Idol” performance ever.

Daughtry: no.

Lewis: f*ck yes.

Winner: Blake Lewis!!!!!!  It’s been ten years, and I still think he not only (simon cowell voice) took an incredible risk, I still think it’s the most inventive, ingenius, absolute jaw-dropping awesome interpretation of a song every person has heard, that I’ve ever heard.

In Daughtry’s defense, his cover of Shinedown’s “I Dare You” was beyond cool, beyond amazing.  It might approach that rarified air known as “Shawsome”, it was so good.

("I Dare You" is in my top twenty seven favorite songs of all time listing ... and I like Daughtry's cover better, than the actual version.  His passion on the chorus is just f*cking perfect.

And I've seen Shinedown live twice, for the record.)

But it wasn’t this:

Jesus.

Almost ten years later, and I still stand and applaud for two straight minutes, while fist pumping.  Albeit without two newbie roommates questioning their sanity at letting me in the front door on a daily basis.

Hope you enjoyed this.  God knows I loved creating it.

--------------------

And as always?

(sgt. esterhaus voice) Hey! Let’s be careful out there

Especially to one friend, who that quote not only more than applies to?

(Pause).

Yeah, I’ll pull the filter off.

Be careful out there, Jasson.  Because (here it comes – promised 8 pages ago!  I’m about to deliver on a promise!  Oh goodie goodie, you know what that might, possibly, in an alternative universe, mean for me, right!!!!!!!)

Because I’m getting god fucking damned sick and tired, of having to text four words – “be safe today dude”, to our friend.  I’m getting god fucking damned sick and tired, of texting those four words to him, after the latest indefensible wrong, done to our nation’s finest.

Be safe today dude.

Because on this site?  And in my life?

rnc night four: everything up to the speech, and one epic rant to boot ...

"Don't ask --
Tell me how you want me!
I can feel it in your heartbeat!
I know you're liking?  What you see!

Hold me --
I'll give you all that you need!
Wrap your love around me!
You're so excited, I can feel you getting hotter!

Oh baby!

I'll take you down!
I'll take you down!
Where no one's ever gone before!

If you want more?
If you want more?
More?  More?

Jump!  (For my love!)
Jump in!  (Feel my touch!)
Jump! (If you want to taste my kisses in the night wind?)
Jump!  For my love!

Jump!  (I know my heart?  Can make you happy!)
Jump In!  (You know these arms?  Can fill you up!)
Jump!  (If you want to taste my kisses in the night wind?)
Jump!  For my love! ..."

--------------------

What?  You thought I'd pick anything other than "Jump!", to open the recap of "House of Wings" speech?

I mean, come on -- it's Donald J. Trump's House of Wings!

Trump!  (You know our wings?  Will make you happy!)
Trump in!  (You know our wings?  Will fill you up!)
Trump!  (If you want a good meal and a good deal?)
Donald Trump?  House of Wings!

Again, gun to my head?  That's one of the ten greatest sketches in Saturday Night Live history.

--------------------

For the first time in my life, peoples and peepettes?

I honestly am frightened for the future of our nation.

Because folks?  Donald J. Trump, "affectionately" known on this site as "House of Wings"?  Donald J. Trump, a man who I have sworn on everything valuable to me I wouldn’t vote for if you put a gun to my head and cocked the trigger?

Donald J. Trump hit it to (reggie jackson voice) second f*cking base Thursday night.

That was good, folks.  That was damned good.  Sh*t, I even found myself applauding or nodding in agreement at about half of what he had to say.  And I'm so far in the tank for Secretary Clinton, it's a wonder my head isn't permanently attached up her ass at this point.

To use "House of Wings" phrasieology (is that a word?  I guess it now is!), to speak as "House of Wings" speaks?  That was a great, great speech Thursday night.  Very great.

There is no one who will speak next week that can approach what we've listened to the last two nights, out of the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates the Republicans are offering, save for possibly former President Clinton.  And let's be brutally honest here -- Hillary can't afford for Bill to be Bill.  It'll only put a gigantic spotlight on what she's not, and what she's not capable of, and that's connecting with us, the voters, watching at home, in a real and genuine way.  She's just not camera-friendly.  It sucks, but it's reality.

"House of Wings"?  Is a natural when the record light is on.

I now truly fear "House of Wings" is going to win.  If someone as die-hard pro-Clinton as myself has to acknowledge "he not only made sense, I agreed with him on over half of what he had to say"?  If a partisan hack like me is seriously re-thinking that partisanship?

What are the actual undecideds thinking this morning?

--------------------

Here's the thing about Thursday night that nobody seems to have picked up on yet.  "House of Wings" acceptance speech?  Was pretty much the ONLY moment last night, that fit the typical Republican template -- and the only part of that speech that truly hit the typical Republican template was that it was a rich white dude talking.

The night opened with a semi-decent speech out of the late Jerry Falwell's son.  I resigned myself to an hour of boring to open the festivities, punctuated by brief moments of fun when G E Smith and the band got to perform.

Then came the second speaker, a (my uncle bill voice) Afro-American pastor from South Carolina named Mark Burns.  The moment he opened his mouth, I put down the glass of shiraz I relied heavily on Thursday night, and just sat, stared, and listened in amazement.  Here, on the stage at the Republican convention, is a black pastor blasting President Obama for his blatant race-baiting and his refusal to stand for equality for all races -- the best line being "there are only three colors that matter in this country: red, white, and blue!"

(Warning: Mount Stevo is about to erupt.  I repeat -- Mount Stevo is about to erupt.  Proceed through the rest of this section with caution.  I repeat -- proceed through the rest of this section with caution.  Because Mount Stevo is about to erupt like it rarely if ever does.)

Pastor Burns set the tone for the evening -- that for the fourth straight night, the Republicans were going to use the pair God gave them, to state the Captain Oats in the room: that Barack Hussein Obama is an utter and total failure as a President in every f*cking way imaginable.  And finally, someone is going to hold him accountable for the utter and total depression and destruction he and he alone is responsible for.  There would be no let-up.  There would be no pause for regrouping and reinforcement.  Just more of the same: attack.  Attack.  Attack.

No matter what?  Attack!  Attack!  Attack!

I've waited eight years for the Captain Oats in the room to be addressed.  I'm fairly certain that if you're reading this, you probably agree with that -- we've waited eight years to hear someone, anyone, in the Republican Party (or the Democrat Party, for that matter) state the obvious, to attack the utter incompetence, the utter failure, the utter and total disaster that the Obama years have been for this nation.  We are led by a man who has literally broken every single promise he's made to us, the electorate.  Every policy, every program, every single thing he has put his hands on, is undeniably WORSE than before he got involved.  Jesus, it's like Dustin has led this country over the last eight years.  The failure, incompetence, and utter refusal to own the consequence of choices made, is that profound.

Finally, after eight bleeping years, finally, someone is calling him on it!  Hallelujah, thank you Jesus!  Pass the champagne and uncork that bastard!  Finally!  For eight years, this President has literally gotten away with all of it.  He has destroyed health insurance in this country with his indefensible Affordable Care Act.  He is literally bankrupting every single one of us, through skyrocketing insurance costs -- and that assumes you can find an insurance plan available.  How's that whole "you can keep your doctor" promise working out for you?  Are you spending $2,500.00 less every year on health insurance, as Mr. Obama promised you would?

He has literally doubled the national debt, and our roads and infrastructure are still third-world quality.  We pissed away $860,000,000,000 (harrison ford in "clear and present danger" voice) and change to rebuild our nation's roads, and we literally have NOTHING to show for it, other than owing that 860 billion and change to the Chinese.

One out of every three people that draw breath in this country don't work.  Let that sink in -- one in every three people you see?  Is living off of your tax dollars, or off of your income.  Either way, you are all but assured to be poorer today, than you were when "the one we've been waiting for" took office seven and a half years of failure ago.

Revenues to the Treasury have NEVER been higher.  $3,248,723,000,000 (harrison ford in “clear and present danger” voice) and change was collected at the federal level in 2015, per Treasury Department statistics.  THREE POINT TWO FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS!  And it STILL left us 439 billion and change shy of a balanced budget!  At some point, you cannot tax people anymore.  We are at that point, thanks solely, only, and completely to the policies of the second worst President in United States history – Barack Hussein Obama.

(Short of ending the Republic, nothing Mr. Obama does can ever make him sink below James Buchanan.  In the interest of fairness, I suppose that needs to be stated.)

Mr. Obama promised that the rising waters caused by global warming would subside.  When's the last time you didn't hear a scientist or climatologist b*tching about how much worse global warming is getting?  Mr. Obama promised that he would restore our respect and standing in the world.  This nation is now so not feared, so not respected?  That North Korea openly laughs at us.  That red line in the sand in Syria?  Where is it?  Why is Bashar Assad still in power, if as Mr. Obama promised, he would respond with force if Mr. Assad killed his own citizens?

Mr. Obama promised to keep this nation safe from attack.  How many more terrorist attacks do we have to endure before he'll fight back?  He decided to lead from behind in Libya.  The end result?  Dead Americans killed in a predictable ambush at Benghazi that he had the gall to blame on a Youtube! video nobody had ever seen, and then the brazenness to send Secretary Clinton and Ambassador Rice out on every Sunday morning show to sell his lies.

(To say nothing of doubling down on the lie, by jailing the video producer.  Uuh, Barry?  If the video isn't at fault -- as your own Secretary of State confirmed in an email to her daughter as the attack was still underway, for Christ's sake! -- why are you jailing the producer.  Oh, and while I'm asking sir, where in the f*ck were you on the evening of September 11, 2012?  Was prepping for that Vegas fundraiser the next day, more important than an attack on American soil?  Oh, and why are you going to Vegas in the first place?  I thought you told us all in 2009 that trips to Vegas were why the economy collapsed, that businesses lost focus of their workers and focused on executive perks?  Christ, EVERY word out of this man's mouth is a lie!  Every damned word!)

Because after all, if Benghazi was labeled for what it proved to be – a terrorist attack on 9/11?  Well, that might destroy the utter bullsh*t lie that we were winning the war on terror.  We’re not.  We’re losing, and every day Barack Obama occupies the Oval Office, we inch ever closer to the ultimate disaster: a dirty bomb attack on a major American city.

Which is more than possible, because Barry refuses to enforce immigration laws.  Look it, I agree with the DREAM Act.  But law is law.  Either it must be enforced, or it must be repealed, period.  The next time that man enforces an immigration law?  Will be the first.  And the last time I checked?  The President doesn't have the right to repeal law.  Only Congress can do that.  If Congress won't work with you sir?  Perhaps you shouldn't have dropped the "I won, I don't have to listen to you" blast you've delivered non-stop for eight years.

He used the IRS to target conservative groups.  That alone is such an unconscionable act, he should be tried for treason.  It's not Hillary who needs a "lock 'em up!" chant aimed at her -- it's Barack Hussein Obama.  Not even Richard Nixon was so evil that he used government agencies to target his enemies.  And let that sink in -- ISIS is a "JV squad" to Mr. Obama.  But conservative Christians, he'll get fired up about and attack.  No matter how many innocent people are killed in the name of the "peaceful" religion of Islam?  He won't act.  He won't respond.  Those mean, bigoted, racist, homophobic Christians, they're the real enemy to this man.  I mean, clearly, Christians are driving into crowds of people in Nice and targeting them for death.  Clearly, conservatives are storming gay night clubs in Orlando and killing people because of who they prefer to have sex with.  Clearly, people who didn't vote for "the one we have waited for" are entering the workplace and shooting everyone in sight.  Clearly, Tea Party members are openly targeting law enforcement officers and executing them, because the color of the officers skin doesn't match theirs.

Mr. Obama promised to get us out of Iraq, get us out of Afghanistan.  We're still there!  He promised to bring peace in our time.  He's the first President ever to have a war on his hands every f*cking day of his administration!  Let that sink in -- not even Abraham Lincoln was at war every day of his time in office.  Even Abraham Lincoln managed six weeks of peace.  Barry can't even manage six seconds of peace.

We were told by Mr. Obama, when Willard correctly identified Russia and Vladimir Putin as a credible threat to this nation, that "the 1980s called and want their foreign policy back".  In the four years since that debate, Mr. Putin has taken the Crimea, can take the Ukraine whenever he wants to, and is just biding his time before taking the Baltic States.  He can do this?  Because he known Barack Obama will do nothing to stop him.  I mean, identify one spot on this planet where the United States is respected and/or feared anymore?  Because I'll be damned if I can think of one.

What we have witnessed this past week?  Is what we should have witnessed four years ago in Tampa!  Willard didn't have the balls to launch.  "House of Wings" may be a lot of things, most of which repulse me.  But at least he doesn't cower in fear against the threats and challenges in our time.  He's no George McClellan; he's Robert E. Lee.  “House of Wings” won’t pause at the gates of Richmond.  “House of Wings” will bulldoze the f*cking gates!  As Mr. Lincoln so famously noted of General Grant, after the single most indefensible attack in the Civil War, the Union assault at Cold Harbor in which literally a thousand Union soldiers were being shot per minute: "I can't spare this man.  He fights!"

“House of Wings”?  The argument can now be made that those of us who love this country cannot spare this man anymore.  At least he'll verbally fight the real enemy!

Finally, after eight years of cowardice, the Republican Party has chosen to fight!  Finally, a credible opposition has been found!  Finally, someone is calling the dreams lies of Barack onto the carpet!  Finally, someone is standing up for common sense!  Finally, someone is labeling Barack Hussein Obama for exactly who and what he is: a pathological liar, an utterly inept and incompetent commander in chief, and an absolute childish coward, who refuses to own the consequence of his choices, and doesn’t have the balls to look someone in the face and take them on.

(God, it really is like Dustin has been our President the last eight years.  No wonder he voted for this embarrassment of a "leader".)

As Fran Tarkenton noted Thursday night (in another quality speech, although given he had to follow up Pastor Burns, nobody will remember it): "What the hell is going on out there?"  Barry will fight for gender neutral bathrooms.  He won't lift a finger to fight evil in our time.  Which one is more important to defeat -- the male / female sign on a restroom door, or ruthless terrorists slaughtering innocent citizens simply for drawing breath?  What matters more -- defeating ISIS or defeating conservatism?  Who's the real enemy -- terrorism, or moral values?

Whatever one may think of this convention (which was bar none, the most entertaining one I've ever watched)?  At least the sleeping bear known as "credible opposition" has finally been woke the f*ck up!

Because when you actually hold the Obama years up to scrutiny?

You have no choice but to beg, plead, and sell your soul, to endure anything other than what we've been through, these last seven and a half years.  Not even hell itself can be as awful, as painful, as horrible, as the Obama years have been.

And that, peoples and peepettes, is why "House of Wings" has a frighteningly decent chance to win this election.  He's not running on his record.  He's running against Barry's.  He's stolen the Democrat playbook from 2006.  Offer nothing.  Criticize everything.  It worked so well for Democrats in 2006, that they got away with nominating an empty suit with no record, and won in a landslide two years later.

No person with an IQ above room temperature can deny, EVERYTHING about the Barack Obama administration has been an utter, total, and devastating disaster.

As I've noted so many times this week: whatever you may think of "House of Wings", you have to concede, there's a genius to his madness.  He always -- always! -- plans three moves ahead.  He always -- always! -- out-strategorizes his opposition.  Ted Cruz?  Thought he was putting "House of Wings" in his place.  Instead, he committed political suicide.  Showcasing his family night after night?  Thought to be a disaster.  Instead, who could listen to those kids and NOT conclude the man is a great parent, a loving father, a devoted granddad?

What can you attack about him?  If "House of Wings" is a pathological liar, then what is Hillary Clinton?  If "House of Wings" is a serial cheater, then what is Bill Clinton?  If "House of Wings" degrades women, then what does Bill Clinton do?  If "House of Wings" uses his kids as props?  Then what is Chelsea Clinton?  If "House of Wings" gets rich using other people's gullibility?  Then what is the Clinton Family Foundation?  If "House of Wings" ... never mind.  I think you get the point.

He's running against Barry's record.  When your resume is that sh*tty, like Barry's is?  Why even bother to submit your plan?  Because the one question every voter who gives a f*ck about this country should be asking, is how can "House of Wings" be WORSE, than what we have now?

Because who amongst us is actually better off, because of Barack Hussein Obama's policies, decisions, choices, and actions?

Yeah.

It's "House of Wings" election to lose now.  And I'm going to make a prediction that will seem absurd right now ... but come a month from now, will prove to be true.  "House of Wings" will get a better bounce coming out of the Democrats convention, than out of his own.  He'll be up four to five points by Labor Day.  Because what you saw this week was an unabashed love for this country.  What you saw these last four days was a fight FOR the United States we were all raised in.  What you'll see next week?  Is an attack AGAINST the United States we were all raised in.  It's going to backfire spectacularly.  And Hillary will have nobody to blame for it, other than herself.

The American people don't want "The Gentle Giant"'s mother on stage.  Your son robbed a convenience store.  He didn't have his hands up.  He stole, he lied, he died.  It happens.

We don't want to see Freddie Gray's family.  Your kid was in the back of a paddy wagon for a reason, and that reason wasn't because of the color of his skin.  We don't want to hear a bunch of race baiters like Reverend Jackson and Reverend Sharpton.  You've had fifty years to fix the problem, Reverends.  How much more time do you f*cking need?

The American people don't want to hear about the need for more government control in our lives.  The government is failing miserably at everything is currently does!

We don't want a parade of victims whining, moaning, and b*tching about how awful their lives are.  My fellow Democrats?  I hate to break it to you ... but we've controlled the god damned country for eight years!  At what point is it our own damned fault, that everything in this nation is a dumpster fire raging out of control?

3:59pm, Saturday, July 23, 2016.  I need a very, very stiff drink, to deal with the reality created by Thursday night, the reality created by last week.  And that reality is this:

"House of Wings" is at worst, a coin flip bet to win now.

God save the Republic.

(And ... scene.)

Funniest moment of Thursday night -- a MSNBC reporter was on the convention floor interviewing some delegate, and literally said she wanted the Secret Service to investigate and charge the delegates for their "lock her up" chant.  What, pray tell, is illegal or threatening about a passionate response to a legitimate question -- did Hillary Clinton break the law by using a private email server?

Martha Stewart was jailed for far less, after all.

Peter Theil.

In "Gone With the Wind", there's a famous line uttered as the first cannonball of General Sherman's artillery began reigning down on the city.  "Yankees in Georgia!  How did they ever get here?"

I found myself asking a similar question Thursday night.  "An openly gay man speaking in prime time real estate at the Republican National Convention!  How in the hell did we ever get here?"

If nothing else, "House of Wings" has finally forced a public acceptance of tolerance, inclusion, and diversity upon the rich white dude society known as the Republican Party.  Four years ago Peter Theil would have been booed off the stage, Ted Cruz style.  Thursday?  Standing ovation, both at the convention and in my main room ... and both ovations were sincere and genuine.

Again, for about the sixtieth time, there is pure genius in "House of Wings"' madness.  How can the Democrats attack this convention?  (Note: they will, but they'll look ridiculous.)  Every minority group, every sexual preference was given a speaking spot, and was not only tolerated, but genuinely cheered and applauded.

Consider: in one sixty minute stretch Thursday night, you heard from (I believe in order):

* a conversative Christian Baptist preacher (white male).
* a firebrand Southern preacher (black male).
* a retired NFL Hall of Fame quarterback (white male).
* the head of Korean Americans for Trump (asian female).
* a gay innovator and businessman (white male).

And that doesn't include "House of Wings" daughter, who was ... we're getting there.

Save for the first one, could you envision any of those people speaking at the RNC as recently as a month ago?

This was the most bat sh*t crazy, most unpredictable convention I've ever watched.  This was must see television, not because it was so god-awful you couldn't turn away ... but because you actually felt better after watching it.  You saw a splintered party unify, through putting the most hated arrogant piece of sh*t in the party in his place.  You saw diversity and youth and the future on full display.  For all of my party's talk about owning the future, look at who our front-runners were: a 69 year old who should be in jail right now, and a 76 year old who redefines the meaning of the phrase "bat sh*t crazy".  Where's the youth in there?  Where's the color in there?  (Where's the honesty in there?)

We're in serious, serious trouble, fellow donkeys.  I thought the moment "House of Wings" got the nomination it was over.

This election is anything but.

Ivanka Trump.

What a speech.  She perfectly -- and I mean perfectly -- laid out the world view from a millenial perspective.  People my age and younger aren't married or invested into a party.  We get invested in the candidate, regardless of party.  We aren't married to traditional social values; we question everything.

(In case you don't believe me, I have voted in five Presidential elections.  I voted for Clinton in 96, Gore in 00, Bush in 04 (the only regret), McCain in 08, Willard in 12.  I am voting Clinton in 16.)

And again, the question that has to be asked, and she forcefully asked it, as only someone not invested in the last two generations of this country can credibly ask: after fifty years of liberal progressivism, of de facto socialism being the guiding force in this country, are we better off because of it?

Or has this last eight years exposed people to the fact that socialism has never worked, will never work, and leaves everyone worse off and more miserable, than before it's tried?

And yet again, what a credit to "House of Wings", how talented, how smart, how utterly fearless, his children are.  I could never stand on a convention stage and give an address that not only was heard by millions of people, but to have the pressure of introducing your father to the nation -- a nation that at best, was seriously skeptical about what was being sold them -- squarely on your shoulders, as Ms. Trump did Thursday night?  Amazing.

One final thing: of COURSE I noticed the fan blowing on her hair too.  Seriously guys -- unless you aren't into chicks, was any one of us bothered by that Thursday night?  I was impressed, to be honest.  If you know you're hot, why not flaunt it?

(Or to quote Brad Paisley: dammit?  I'm still a guy!)

I intend to have my reaction to "House of Wings" speech up by midday Monday at the latest.  I want to get into some detail with it, especially given that Secretary Clinton is hitting hard on what I thought was the ONLY (jaron rush tattoo voice) weakeness in it -- he reliance on one letter of the alphabet.

Until then?  (the late, great michael conrad voice) Let's be careful out there ...
